come quickly and suddenly to the dan-

There are proper lines beyond which
we will not try to pass in speaking, in

DEAR PASTOR:
After muclr forethot, I have outlined a plan that I feel will not only
put more interest and enthusiasm in our Annual ALLEN DAY, but
make it a great time to Advertise and sell African Methuen by
recounting the deeds and achievements of our great Founder and the
history of the Church he organized. I hereby submit it to you, trusting
that it shall receive such hearty endorsement that Pastor and Church
will cooperate to make it all we desire it to be.
THE PLAN
1. Select in each Church a Richard Allen Celebration Committee to
be composed of at least one representative from each organizati
in the Church.
Have them to meet at least once annually. as soon as possible to
plan the Allen Celebration program.
3. Program to consist’ of Great Religious Services the 2nd Sv
in February, and an Oratorical Contest on Allen’s Birthday or
est convenient week day. Contestants from the Young Peop
»Department.
Contest.
9. Will talk to Pastors about a Richard Allen Badge that can be sold
for 25c. Can be used for all occasions such as Picnics, Celebrations

Presiding Elder's District, but there is possibility of using the sugges-

4. The Committee is to plan, boost, advertise, attend and do everything
possible to make the Religious Services and Oratorical Contest
successful.
5. Each member and well-wisher to be asked to help celebrate Allen's
birthday by celebrating on that day their own Christian birthday
and giving one cent a year for every year they have been a Chris
tian. Suitable envelopes to be provided by Committee and each
Organization represented to get full credit for what it reports.
To be collected on or before 2nd Sunday in February.
6. Oratorical Contest. Subject, “The Place of Richard Allen in the
Annals of American History.” Not more than 10 minutes. No
manuscript to be used. Two prizes to be given. Committee to

FOUNDERS DAY CHAL-
LENGE
On the second Sunday sn Feb-
ruary we observe the birthday
of Richard Allen, the founder of
the African M. E. Church, and
the apostle of freedom. It is the
one occasion when we should
more deeply appreciate deeds and
contribution of him who in the
period of slavery purchast his
freedom and that of his family
and lead the race along the path
of religious freedom. The church
which he formally organised in
1816 is his imperishable monu-
ment. It is now a far-flung
connection with work in Africa,
South America, Canada, Bermuda,
the West Indies aside from
thousands of preaching places,
churches, ministers and a million
members in the United States.
Over this sacramental host thir-
teen active Bishops preside.
Along with the worship and
literary program the various
churches are required by law to
raise and send funds to the
Manager of the Book Cancern.
Herein lies the ghallenge. Our
connection has become so decen-
tralised that it is menaced by
district interests. An ‘after of-
fering’ is usually taken for the
Book Concern or a pittance is
reported at the Annual Confer-
ence. Should we obey the law
in spirit and letter we would be
able to clear the Allen Building
of its entire indebtedness. The
strongest tie that binds us as a
connection is the Dollar Money.
Let us add to it redemption of
the Allen Building, and freeing
it of debt. The Book Concern
needs your support.
THE CHRISTIAN RECORDER.
Founders Day should be a time
for getting our people to read
our church literature. We should
get them to support our periodi-
cals, and especially our ‘mother
journal, The Christian Recorder.
Since it has been separated from
the Book Concern it must pay its
way. Let us reflect credit upon
the name of our illustrious and
sainted founder by perpetuating
what the fathers have handed
down to us, The Christian Re-
corder needs desperately your
prayers, sympathy and aid.
